In the early 90s I wrote for a show called Saturday Zoo. It was hosted by the great Jonathan Ross and it was an attempt to do a British Saturday Night Live. Saturday Zoo wasn’t a hit, weirdly, but it featured some extraordinary talent (Steve Coogan, Kevin Day, Simon Day, Mark Thomas, John Thomson, Rowland Rivron, Lise Meyer) and thanks to music booker Sean Rowley and comedy booker John Tiffney, everyone from Dexys Midnight Runners to John Shuttleworth.
I loved writing for the show and collaborating with other writers and comics: and this, I reckon, is the highpoint. We all worked on this sketch and the star himself added some lines (specifically “Next week - Hamsel and Gramsel!”).
